BIOGRAPHY

Carmen Lim

Carmen Lim (simplified Chinese: 林康雯; pinyin: Lín Kāng Wén) was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has actively performed in many intra-school singing competitions since the age of seven. In 2006, she began picking up piano lessons and found her love towards arts when she started leading dance steps at childcare center by the age of eleven. In 2014, Carmen graduated from high school and became a judge of singing contest at SMK Bandar Sri Damansara 1. She also won the award of ‘Most Popular Participants’ in Wilayah Persekutuan and Selangor Chinese singing competition in 2015. From that onwards, Carmen started pursuing her music education in Popular Music in Serene Music Academy.

In 2016, Carmen then moved into getting Classically trained with Jane Soong after passing the audition at University of Malaya (UM). Until today, she is still pursuing her final year in Bachelor of Music, specializing in Classical Music in UM. Along the way, Carmen was exposed to various areas in music and is even in love with performing arts.

To cite a few of her accomplishments, Carmen was a performer of UNITEN Fiesta One, one of the biggest events in UNITEN, performer of 13th Anniversary Business Network International Celebration (BNI) and lyricist of ‘Let’s Drive to the Future’, Pintar College 10th Graduation Ceremony. While at UM, Carmen has also performed in various events such as Special Olympics Malaysia Charity Concert, Opening Convocation Ceremony of University of Malaya and Launching Ceremony of Marketing and Recruitment Center at University of Malaya.

Besides participating in Popular Music, Carmen was a choir member of Young Malaysians Go Classic II and had performed in Europa Awards for Sustainability in 2017. She is currently a chorus member of Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO) and has taken part in the production Hansel and Gretel fairy tale opera as well as The Marriage of Figaro comic opera. Earlier this year, Carmen performed as a choir member in the Russian Bells choral symphony and Eugene Onigin lyric opera at Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). Also within that same year, Carmen was thrilled to be given the lead role of Yum-Yum in the production of The Mikado comic opera together with friends from Central Queensland University, Conservatorium of Music, Australia.

Not to rest on her laurels, Carmen is now a vocal educator and a voice over talent of MRC Animation Education Videos and is always in the lookout for something new for her to learn as well as exercise her skills.
